Here is an ideal rooftop tent itinerary for 3 weeks exploring Uganda with a set of camping gear in the back of your car.
Day 1 – Transfer from the airport to a nearby hotel in Entebbe and then go for a Kampala city tour where you will visit many of the city’s attractions.
Day 2 – set forth to Lake Mburo National Park where you will be able to do the evening game drive on that same day. You will spot as many zebras as you can along with a mammoth of other animals.
Day 3 – Morning game drive in the Park and then a boat cruise on Lake Mburo which inhabits a variety of hippos and crocodiles.
Day 4 – drive to the Kibale Forests National Park in western Uganda, which is about a 3 hours and 40 minutes’ drive from Lake Mburo National Park.
Day 5 – go for the morning chimpanzee tracking expeditions in the extraordinary rain forests of Kibale. After the fascinating chimpanzee excursions, you will ascend to Semliki National Park – a less than 3 hours’ drive.
Day 6 – you will visit the eye-catching Sempaya hot springs and also see a variety of animals plus many Africa’s most sought after bird species like the shoe bills.
Day 7 – Transfer to the epic Queen Elizabeth National Park, an evening game drive to sight some of the Park wildlife species such as buffaloes, elephants, lion, leopard, water bucks, Uganda Kob, and Warthogs, among others.
Day 8 – Morning game drive in the Park including immersing yourself in the mind-blowing Lion Experimental Experience. You will also head to the Mweya sector of the Park to indulge in the impressive boat cruise on the beautiful and touristic Kazinga channel.
Day 9 – Drive to the Ishasha sector of the Park to search for the amazing tree climbing lions which spend time, especially the noon hours, resting and chilling on the branches of big fig trees in the Park. After the spectacular sightings of the unusual tree climbing lions in Ishasha, you will then proceed to the great Bwindi Impenetrable Forests National Park.
Day 10 – trekking the endangered mountain gorillas in the impenetrable forests of Bwindi and then after drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for another thrilling gorilla excursion.
Day 11 – do double gorilla trekking in Uganda (Mgahinga) thus achieving a great experience in gorilla safaris.
Day 12 – Drive to the astonishing Murchison Falls National Park
Day 13 – A morning game drive in the Park, spot four of Africa’s big five (elephants, buffaloes, lions, and leopards), and then a boat cruise underneath the world’s greatest waterfalls, Murchison Falls.
Day 14 – you will go for a picturesque visit to the top of Murchison Falls and then drive to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track the rhinos. The sanctuary is the only home for the wild rhinos in Uganda.
Day 15 – you will drive to Kidepo Valley National Park.
Day 16 – have a morning game drive in the Park and also visit the amazing Kanangorok hot spring.
Day 17 – drive to the Sipi falls in Mountain Elgon National Park.
Day 18 – you will go for the guided nature walks and also visit the bottom of the Sipi falls.
Day 19 – drive to Jinja town and explore the source of Africa’s longest River (River Nile) and also indulge in the fascinating white water rafting on the River.
Day 20 – Touring Jinja’s other various attractions such as the Bujagali Hydro power waterfall, and many others.
Day 21 – Descend back to Kampala for a flight back home but before reaching Kampala, just after a 1-hour drive from Jinja, you will break off in the Mabira forest to do the impressive zip lining in the middle of Uganda’s largest forest where you will also sight various primates and birds.
